Last time, I shared with you why our eyes are ill equipped for looking at screens for long periods of time.
Today, I’d like to talk about the changes that cell phone usage has placed on our bodies.
You see, a particular car model is designed for a particular use. Sedans are for city driving, trucks are for hauling stuff, and Jeeps are for rough roads out in the woods.
When you drive your sedan out into the woods, you’re adding extra wear & tear on the car. It’s simply not designed to carry out that task day in & day out.
And that’s exactly what we’re asking our bodies to do when we use cell phones on a daily basis or, for some of us, when we’re glued to our cell phones.
To start, we bend our heads down ever so slightly to look at our phones. That adds extra tension on the neck.
We type on a tiny screen with our fingers. People get ‘text claws’ as a result. Stiffness, pain, numbness, you name it.
I’m not saying get rid of cell phones. For one, I’m totally dependent on them myself.
What I’m saying is, these devices we depend on have a lot of side effects. Be aware of them & proceed with caution.
Here is a list of possible side effects of cell phone usage:
- Difficulty sleeping
- Eyestrain
- Neck tension
- Headaches
- Back pain
- Lack of focus
- Foggy brain
- Anxiety & depression
If this makes sense to you, try figuring out how you can cut down your cell phone usage just a tad, saying 20%. Do it for two weeks & see how you feel.
Share with me here your experience of cell phone usage & whether you plan to cut it down & how.
