How to Turn Worry Around

Many of us have experienced the power of words. Your second-grade teacher said: “You’re stupid.” Your father said: “You’ll amount to nothing.” Your sister called out: “You’re ugly!” These words have a lasting impact on your psyche.

When you worry, your worries show up as internal chatter in your head. All day long you tell yourself: “I’m sick” or “My future is shaky and uncertain”. Those words impact you as much as the words from your parents and teachers, if not more.

According to Louis Hay, a pioneer in the self-healing movement, all of our thoughts are prayers. That statement stopped me in my tracks. Like many people, I pray and do believe in the power of prayer.

Because I don’t want to be stuck in an undesirable situation, I’ve learned to reverse worrisome thoughts to positive, powerful prayers.

For instance, when I rush through my day, tense because I’m worried about not having enough time, I say: “I’m calm and relaxed. I have plenty of time to get everything done.”

When I toss and turn at night, unable to sleep, I say: “My sleep is restful. It renews and rejuvenates me”.

When I’m exhausted, I say: “My energy supports me. I have plenty of energy to do what I need to do
with ease.”

Here’s what you can do to stop worrying and tap into the power of prayer. When something feels challenging to you, or when you’re worried about something, notice that. Notice what you say to yourself. Turn it into a positive prayer. Write down the prayer and post it where you can see it. Say it out loud 3 times a day.

Don’t worry if it doesn’t feel true to you. You’re playing a mind game. In due time, you’ll have a positive pep-talk that will stop you from worrying and give you a much-needed boost.

What’s your favorite prayer to turn worry around? Let me a comment below.

I am not my thoughts. I am not my emotions. I am not my body. I am my soul. I am the light of my soul.

Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Mathew7:7KJV

Hi Dan, thank you so much for the beautiful post. I’m a huge fan of Luise Hay’s work on positive affirmation and mirrow work. My favourite prayer to turn worry around is “all is well and I trust every life process to do good for my highest self”. With warmest regards, Natalie
