One of the main reasons you wake up several times during the night is that there are too many toxins in your body. This could be happening for any number of reasons:
- You drink caffeine or alcohol.
- You take prescription medication.
- You eat food that has pesticides or additives.
- You clean your house with products that contain chemicals.
- You use electronic devices that emit formaldehyde and other chemicals.
Whatever the reason, your body is overloaded with toxins. Your liver, the body’s factory for detox, works overtime just to keep things afloat.
Your liver works the hardest from 1 am to 3 am; that’s nature’s design.
When the liver has to work extra hard, it can wake you up during that time period. Once you wake up, either your sleep becomes really shallow, or you simply stay awake until 5 am.
Fortunately, there are ways that you can give your liver a hand.
- Make the sound ‘shh’.
You can make the sound ‘shh’ when you’re doing something mindless, like driving or washing dishes. - Rock the liver.
Your liver sits directly under your right rib cage. Place your palms over the liver and rock it (and your body) as if rocking a baby. - Massage ‘Great Rushing’, the 3rd acupressure point on the liver meridian.
Run your thumb from the web between your 1st and 2nd toes straight up towards your ankle. You’ll come to a bony spot. About halfway between the bony spot and the web is ‘Great Rushing’. Dig deep into this area, and you’ll find a tender spot. Massage that spot.
